Chris Cox
As a young child there was always a lot of art around as my father used to paint oil landscapes and I was encouraged to draw and paint from an early age.
Art was my favourite subject at school and I did an O level and went on to do an A level at evening classes later.
I found it sometimes frustrating at school that the materials used were often poor quality and it was only when I did an evening class as a young adult that I learnt about quality watercolour papers, paints and brushes which really made a big difference.
I painted watercolours mostly for 30 years and learnt a lot of techniques from books also.
More recently I have been painting in acrylic and I tend to use a lot of watercolour techniques like thin glazes and reserving white areas as old habits die hard I guess and I like the transparency and light that you get.
Most recently I have been experimenting with replicating the effect of stained glass windows, painting on Perspex sheet in thin washes then mounted with white paper behind which really helps with the luminosity.
